Who We Are?
BACKGROUND
A few social workers thought and realized the need to eliminate the social and economic disparity of the neglected, oppressed, unemployed and marginalized people of Dinajpur district through their mutual cooperation. For this purpose, they feel the need of a social development organization in their own way of thinking and established a non-government, nonprofit and non-political organization the “Surja Shikha” in 1992. Translated form of “Surja Shikha” is “Sun Light”.It has been working at the grass root level in the Northern part of Bangladesh since its inception.
The founding Executive Director of the Organization Dr. Rtn. M. Shahjahan Siraj put up all possible efforts to engender the participatory process of development at the center. Such process is founded upon the sustainable development and material capacity building of the poor people and their socio-economic and cultural capital.
On the way to the journey Surja Shikha has faced some challenges but not halt rather under reformed management at the top level it is proceeding with new hope and broader field of services aligned with the vision.
